DictionarySeefluorocarbonFluorocarbons
FluorocarbonsCarbon-fluorine compounds that often contain other elements such as hydrogen, chlorine, or bromine. Fluorocarbons are used as refrigerants and propellants in aerosol products, among other uses. Common fluorocarbons include chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), and perfluorocarbons (PFCs). In 1978 the United States began phasing out the use of CFCs because of their ozone-depleting effect.fluorocarbons
fluorocarbons Various organic compounds in which fluorine replaces hydrogen. The fluorocarbons are widely used as aerosol propellants, refrigerants and solvents and their release into the atmosphere is believed to offer a grave threat to the ecology of the planet because of their catalytic effect on the ozone layer.
