Bukhtarma
Bukhtarma
a river in the Southern Altai Mountains, Vostochnyi Kazakhstan Oblast, Kazakh SSR; right tributary of the Irtysh River (which empties into Bukhtarma Reservoir). Its length is 336 km; the area of its basin, 12, 660 sq km. It draws its source from the glaciers of the Southern Altai Range. In its upper reaches the Bukhtarma flows rapidly through a narrow valley, but in its lower reaches it flows more gently. It has the most water during the spring and summer, and its average yearly flow is 214 cu m per sec. It is used for floating timber and is accessible to small vessels.
