Dundes, Alan

(1934– ) anthropologist, folklorist; born in New York City. An Indiana University Ph.D., he joined the University of California: Berkeley faculty in 1963. His first book, The Morphology of North American Indian Folktales (1964) was followed by important work on the history and (mostly psychoanalytic) interpretation of diverse folklore from Cinderella and sick jokes to corporate folklore and the Flood.
