Constantinople Conference of Ambassadors of 1885

The conference took place from October 24 (November 5) to November 18 (30). It was called in order to prepare a position acceptable to all parties regarding the unification of southern and northern Bulgaria that took place as a result of the September 1885 rebellion in Eastern Rumelia. It ended without the adoption of any resolutions because of conflicts among the participants. On Mar. 24 (Apr. 5) 1886, the ambassadors of the countries that participated in the conference signed a protocol according to which only a Bulgarian prince could be the governor-general of Eastern Rumelia, which remained an autonomous province of Turkey on the basis of the decisions of the Berlin Congress of 1878.
