Baliño, Carlos

 

Born Feb. 13, 1848; died May 1926. Cuban revolutionary; propagandist of Marxism.

Between 1868 and 1878, BaliñO participated in the liberation movement against spanish colonial oppression.

Baliño and J. Mart were founders of the Cuban Revolutionary Party (1892). BaliÑO opposed the colonialist plans of the USA with respect to Cuba. In 1901 he founded the Club for Socialist Propaganda. BaliÑo welcomed the Great October Socialist Revolution in Russia and tought highly of V. I. Lenin’S activities continuing the work of K. Marx and F. Engels. In 1919 he established the first Communist Association in Cuba in order to organize the movement of solidarity with Soviet Russia and Propagandize Marxism. BaliÑO was one of the founders of the Communist Party of Cuba (1925).
