Budeshty

Budeshty

a settlement and burial ground from the Cherniakhovsk culture (second to fourth centuries A.D.), located near the village of Cherniakhovsk, Kriuliany Raion, Moldavian SSR. The remains of 360 burials and cremations were uncovered at the burial mound during excavations in 1954-57. Thracian features are discernible in the burial rites (special lids used to cover the burial urns). The large homes of patriarchal families, the first to be found from the Cherniakhovsk culture, have been discovered among the surface dwellings at the settlement. Numerous finds indicate an advanced level of agriculture, pottery making, and bronze casting among the Tirahet-Sarmatian population that left these remains.
