a tear and separation in the central part of a semilunar cartilage with the ends intact that produces a resemblance to the handle of a bucket.

(bŭk'ĕt han'dĕl tār) 1. A tear in the central part of a semilunar cartilage. 2. A tear in one of the menisci of a knee joint, near the rim and following its curvature, which can allow a flap of cartilage to impede movement of the joint.
