Eskola, Ants Vol’demarovich
Born Feb. 4 (17), 1908, in Tallinn. Soviet Estonian actor. People’s artist of the USSR (1964).
Eskola has been chiefly associated with three theaters in Tallinn. Beginning in 1925, he performed for a long period primarily at the Estonia Theater. He joined the V. Kingissepp Theater in 1949 and the Young People’s Theater in 1966. His roles have included Maurus in Tammsaare’s Man and God, the title role in Shakespeare’s Hamlet and in Ibsen’s Peer Gynt, Krechinskii in Sukhovo-Kobylin’s Krechinskii’s Wedding, and Shaw in Kilty’s Dear Liar. He has also appeared in films, such as The New Demon From Hell (1965).
Eskola received the State Prize of the Estonian SSR in 1965 and has been awarded two orders.
