Bucareli y Ursúa, Antonio María
(äntō`nyō märē`ä bo͞okärā`lē ē o͞orso͞o`ä), 1717–79, Spanish colonial administrator. He served in the Spanish army and as governor of Cuba before becoming (1771) viceroy of New Spain (Mexico). His enlightened administration, which lasted until his death, brought peace and prosperity as well as many reforms, and Bucareli was widely popular.Bibliography
