Beshkov, Iliia
Born July 11,1901, in the village of Dolni Dubnik, Pleven District; died Jan. 23, 1958, in Sofia. Bulgarian graphic artist, cartoonist, and illustrator.
Beshkov studied at the Sofia Academy of Arts (1921–26) and worked in Sofia. In the 1920’s and 1930’s he published antimonarchy and antifascist satirical drawings in the journals Ek (Echo), Zhupel, and others. After the overthrow of the fascist regime in 1944, he worked for the major newspapers of Bulgaria and for the journal Sturshel (Hornet). He received the Dimitrov Prize in 1950. He was a professor at the Academy of Arts.
