Atanasoff-Berry Computer
Atanasoff-Berry Computer
(computer)The electronic parts were mounted on a rotating drum, makingit hybrid electronic/electromechanical. It was designed tohandle only a single type of mathematical problem and was notautomated. The results of a single calculation cycle had tobe retrieved by a human operator, and fed back into themachine with all new instructions, to perform complexoperations. It lacked any serious form of logical control orconditional statements.
Atanasoff's patent application was denied because he neverhave a completed, working product. Ideas from the ABC wereused in the design of ENIAC (1943-1946).
