Atai
Atai
Years of birth and death unknown. Uzbek lyric poet of the first half of the 15th century. Born in Balkh into the family of a sheikh. Court poet.
A subtle lyricist, Atai celebrated nature and earthly love. His ghazals were marked by elegance of style; they were saturated with elements of folkloric poetics. Atai’s poetry was characterized by the use of homonyms as rhyme. His poetic legacy did not survive in its entirety.
