Brussels Conference of 1937

a conference of representatives of the USSR, the USA, China, Belgium, France, Portugal, the Netherlands, Italy, Great Britain, Denmark, Sweden, Mexico, Bolivia, Australia, the Union of South Africa, Canada, Norway, India, and New Zealand, held Nov. 3-24, 1937, in Brussels, in connection with the Japanese aggression in China. Japan and Germany refused to attend the conference. China demanded the application of economic sanctions against Japan. However, this demand was supported only by the USSR delegation. While noting Japan’s violation of the Nine-Power Treaty, the Brussels Conference did not adopt any serious measures toward curbing the Japanese aggression on account of the positions of the USA, Great Britain, and France.
