Ducula
Ducula
(nutmeg pigeons), a genus of birds of the family Columbidae. The body length is 30-47 cm. The plumage is grayish pink and green, black and gray, or white and black. There are 36 species, distributed on some Pacific islands and in the tropics from India to New Guinea and Australia. Nutmeg pigeons live in the upper levels of the forest, descending only for water. They gather in flocks on fruit-bearing trees and nest on tree branches and, less frequently, in tree hollows or cracks in rocks. A clutch contains a single white egg. Nutmeg pigeons feed on berries and fruits, digesting only the pulp. They are game birds.
