Fay, Mrs. H. B.

(religion, spiritualism, and occult)

Mrs. H. B. Fay was an American materialization medium. As many as fifty different forms would appear at her séances, varying in age from very young to elderly. At one séance, one of the sitters was unable to recognize a materialization claiming to be her brother, who had died when quite young. The materialized form obligingly changed, in full view of the sitters, to a young boy whom the lady then recognized. Alfred Russel Wallace (1823–1913), the famous British naturalist, was one of the many sitters who attested to the mediumship of Mrs. Fay. E. A. Bracket recorded the events of many of her séances in his book Materialised Apparitions.
