Crowell, Henry P.

Crowell, Henry P. (Parsons)

(1855–1944) grain merchant; born in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1881 he bought the Quaker Mill in Ravenna, Ohio, and in 1888 he formed the Buckeye Foundry Company (forerunner of Perfection Stove Company of Cleveland) to make oil stoves. He moved to Chicago where he became the senior executive of the American Cereal Company, forerunner of the Quaker Oats Company (1901), whose board he chaired from 1922–44. A devout man, he presided over the Moody Bible Institute board of trustees (1904–44).
