Argyris, (Christopher) Chris

(1923– ) psychologist, sociologist; born in Newark, N.J. He taught at Yale (1951–71) and the Harvard graduate schools of education and business administration (1971). He conducted private consultancies with government organizations. Bringing social science techniques to organizational theory, he specialized in human relations, executive development, and organizational behavior and development. One of his prominent books was Overcoming Organizational Defenses (1990).
