单词 | broughton, t. robert s. |
释义 | Broughton, T. Robert S.Broughton, T. (Thomas) Robert S. (Shannon)(1900– ) Roman historian; born in Corbetton, Ontario, Canada. After earning a B.A. (1921) and M.A. (1922) at the University of Toronto, Canada, he acquired his Ph.D. at Johns Hopkins (1928). He spent most of his teaching career in the United States, notably at Bryn Mawr (1928–65) and the University of North Carolina: Chapel Hill (1965–70; emeritus 1970). His Magistrates of the Roman Republic (1951–52) and the Addenda and Corrigenda (1986) records every known Roman magistrate from 509 B.C. to 31 B.C. This monumental work, largely done by one man working without the help of computer technology, made it possible for historians to apply accurately the techniques of prosopography, the study of relationships between individuals, to the Roman Republic. |
