Location:North-central Idaho. Accessible by US 12 and 95. Nearby cities/towns include Kooskia, Lewiston, Orofino, and Moscow.

Special Features:Forest is composed mainly of deep forested canyons interspersed with high, rugged ridges. Attractions include the Lewis and Clark Highway (US 12), a scenic drive through some of Northern Idaho's most beautiful scenery, with interpretive stops along the way; Lewis and Clark and Nez Perce national historic trails (see separate entries in national trails section); Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness; Mallard-Larkins Pioneer Area.
