Ellsworth Mountains
mountains in the southern part of Ellsworth Land, in Western Antarctica. The Ellsworth Mountains extend for 300 km from 77° to 80° S lat. The largest ranges are the Sentinel and the Heritage. At 5,140 m, Vinson Massif in the Sentinel Range is the highest peak in Antarctica. The Ellsworth Mountains were discovered in 1935 by the American aviator L. Ellsworth.
