Bronx Aging Study

A prospective study which enrolled English-speaking subjects age 75 to 85, who resided in the Bronx, a borough of New York City.
 
Conclusion
Dementia occurred at lower rates in those who engaged in cognitively-demanding leisure activities.
Exclusions
Severe hearing or vision impairment and a previous diagnosis of idiopathic Parkinson’s disease, liver disease, alcoholism, or known terminal illness; subjects were screened to exclude dementia at baseline and included if they had a low score on the Blessed Information-Memory-Concentration test.
