Aurél Bernáth
Bernáth, Aurél
Born Nov. 13, 1895, in Marcali. Hungarian painter and graphic artist. He studied in 1915 and 1916 at the art colony in Nagybanya (today called Baia-Mare, Rumania). He went through a cubist period and an expressionist period. Since 1945 he has been a professor at the Budapest Academy of Arts. He has created colorful, finely painted murals, thematic pictures, landscapes, and still lifes (Riviera, 1926–27; a study for a fresco entitled Popular Sport, in tempera, 1951–52, in the Hungarian National Gallery in Budapest). He was the winner of the M. Munkacsy and L. Kossuth prizes.
