Location:20 miles north of Mandan, adjacent to Cross Ranch State Park (see separate entry).

Special Features:Located along one of the last undeveloped stretches of the MissouriRiver, the preserve contains the largest remaining tract of floodplainwoodland on this stretch of the Missouri. Wildlife includes mule deer,white-tailed deer, badger, raccoon, and coyote, as well as bison, whichwere introduced to the area in 1986. Among the many bird species foundhere are Baird's sparrow and Sprague's pipit, both rare. The preservealso includes more than 100 archeological sites.
