clearance limit

clearance limit

The point to which an aircraft is granted an air traffic control clearance (ICAO). Normally, an aircraft should be cleared for the entire route, but under certain conditions, a short-range clearance procedure is used in which clearance is issued to a fix within or outside of the terminal area. The pilot is advised of the frequency on which he or she will receive further clearance. Coordination has been completed up to that point or will be completed by the time the aircraft reaches that point. Further instructions or clearance will be given at the waypoint or the fix up to point at which the aircraft is cleared.
