A type-II transmembrane glycoprotein encoded by ENPP1 on chromosome 6q22-q23, which has broad specificity and cleaves various substrates (e.g., phosphodiester bonds of nucleotides and nucleotide sugars and their pyrophosphate bonds; nucleoside 5' triphosphates (GTP, CTP, TTP and UTP) to their monophosphates and diadenosine polyphosphates). It may be involved in regulating the availability of nucleotide sugars in the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus, as well as in regulating purinergic signalling.
