Andreen, Ellenor Andrea

Born July 11, 1888, in Örby. Swedish doctor.

Andreen graduated from the medical faculty of the University of Uppsala in 1909 and received the doctor of medicine degree in 1933. She engaged in scientific research on medical chemistry. From 1945 to 1953 she was chief doctor at the Central Clinical Laboratory in Stockholm. Since 1930 she has been permanent chairwoman of the Left Alliance of Women of Sweden, which became a member organization of the International Democratic Federation of Women (IDFW) in 1945. Since 1945 she has been a member of the IDFW executive committee. In 1952 she visited Korea and China as a member of the International Commission of Scientists to Investigate Instances of the Use of Biological Weapons by the US Armed Forces. In 1953 she was elected vice-president of IDFW and a member of the World Council of Peace. In 1953 she received the International Lenin Prize for Strengthening Peace Between Nations.
