Key, Ellen Karolina Sofia
Born Dec. 11, 1849, in Sundsholm; died Apr. 25, 1926, in Strand. Swedish writer and public figure.
Key’s first published work was the pamphlet Some Thoughts Concerning the Reasons for the Emergence of Reaction (1889). She also wrote articles about Sofia Kovalevskaia, the biographies Anne Charlotte Leffler (1893) and Almqvist (1897), and a book on raising children, The Century of the Child (1900; Russian translation, 1905). Key’s The Women’s Movement (1909) is devoted to the women’s emancipation movement of the 1880’s, in which she had been a participant.
