film recorder

A device that creates a 35mm slide or film negative from a digital file. Scanning at high resolutions, generally from 2,000 to 4,000 lines, the film recorder typically works by recreating the image on a built-in CRT that shines through a color wheel onto the film. Some units provide optional Polaroid camera backs for instant previewing. Early film recorders were connected to desktop computers by plugging in a controller board cabled to the recorder.
