Deaneries serve multiple NHS Trusts, are responsible for postgraduate education and training of doctors and dentists to standards set by the General Medical Council (GMC) and the General Dental Council (GDC), and are advised by Specialty Training Committees (STCs) with input from consultant doctors and surgeons. Deaneries control, monitor and fund the number of current training posts via the National Training Number (NTN) system.
