ClavariaceaeClavariaceaea family of basidiomycetous fungi. The fleshy fruiting body resembles branching coral or, less frequently, is clavate or subulate. It is mostly whitish or yellowish and almost completely covered with a sporebearing layer. The smooth spores are colorless or pale yellow. There are about 25 genera, embracing nearly 500 species. Eighty species are found in the USSR. The fungi grow mainly in forests in soil or, less frequently, on woody remains. Some species are edible, and there are no poisonous ones. Species of the genus Typhula cause a disease of agricultural plants; those of the genus Aparassis cause rot of tree roots. Clavariaceae
