Fowler, Orson Squire

(1809–1887)Not an architect, but a leading phrenologist, who published the book A Home for All in 1848, which established the octagonal plan as a viable building type. It was constructed in many different materials all over America, including the Armour-Stiner House in 1859, a multistyled structure in Irvington, NY, and the McElroy House in San Francisco, CA, in 1861.
