fixed-choice questionnaire

fixed-choice questionnaire

a QUESTIONNAIRE in which all (or most) of the questions are fixed choice, such that RESPONDENTS are provided with a range of optional (and often precoded) answers and are asked to indicate which applies to them. While this type of questionnaire is useful in collecting standardized data, the use of fixed-choice questions is sometimes criticized for wrongly imposing the researcher's meanings (see MEASUREMENT BY FIAT, CICOUREL).
