class interest

class interest

  1. (MARXISM) the ‘objective’ economic interests of a CLASS arising from its location within a MODE OF PRODUCTION.
  2. (in a more general sense) any INTEREST that may be pursued or held to exist by, or on behalf of, members of a class.
Since it is clear that 2 may be at odds with 1 , numerous questions arise as to the ‘true’ basis of class interests, or whether multiple bases of class interests must be acknowledged (see CLASS CONSCIOUSNESS, CLASS IMAGERY, IDEOLOGY). However, for analytical purposes both uses of the term persist.
