Clark, Lewis Gaylord

Clark, Lewis Gaylord,

1808?–1873, American editor and writer, b. near Syracuse, N.Y. He was the editor (1834–60) of the Knickerbocker Magazine and made it a leading literary publication of its day. He wrote Knickerbocker Sketch-Book (1845) and Knick-Knacks from an Editor's Table (1852). His twin brother, Willis Gaylord Clark, 1808?–1841, was coeditor (1834–41) of the Knickerbocker. His Literary Remains (1844) includes the sketches and verse that he contributed to the magazine.
