释义 | Clark, EugenieClark, Eugenie(1922– ) ichthyologist; born in New York City. She was an assistant ichthyologist at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography (1946–47) and the New York Zoological Society (1947–48), then relocated to the American Museum of Natural History (1948–66) while concurrently serving as executive director of marine biology at the Cape Haze Marine Laboratory, Sarasota, Fla. (1955–66). Her popular autobiography, Lady With a Spear (1953), conveyed her spirited and independent nature as well as her enthusiasm for marine organisms in their own environment. She became an associate professor of biology at City University of New York (1966–67), then moved to the University of Maryland (1969). She made many trips to the Red Sea for field study, performed extensive investigations on the behavior of sharks, and made major contributions to studies of the reproductive behavior, morphology and taxonomy, and isolation mechanisms of fishes. |
