assumed position

[ə′sümd pə′zi·shən] (navigation) In celestial navigation, a point on the surface of the earth at which a craft is assumed to be located and for which the computed altitude is determined in the solution of a celestial observation. Also known as chosen position.

assumed position (AP)

The geographical position upon which a celestial solution is based.
