Dianin, Aleksandr Pavlovich
Born Apr. 8 (20), 1851, in the village of Davydovo, present-day Vladimir Ob-last; died Dec. 6, 1918, in Petrograd. Russian organic chemist. Graduated from the St. Petersburg Academy of Medicine and Surgery. Student of A. P. Borodin and his successor in the department of chemistry (1887-1916) at the academy.
Dianin established that monatomic phenols become diatomic upon oxidation. He also discovered the condensation reaction between ketones and phenols, which has come to be widely used.
