Dneprodzerzhinsk Reservoir

a reservoir formed between 1963 and 1965 by the dam of the Dneprodzerzhinsk Hydroelectric Power Plant on the Dnieper River on the territory of Dnepropetrovsk, Kirovograd, and Poltava oblasts, Ukrainian SSR. Area, 567 sq km; volume, 2.45 cu km; length, 140 km; maximum width, 20 km; and average depth, 4.3 m. Large bays have formed in place of the estuarine sections of such rivers as the Vorskla and Psel. The level of the reservoir is kept virtually constant. The Dneprodzerzhinsk Reservoir regulates diurnal streamflow. The cities of Kremenchug and Verkhnedneprovsk are located on the banks of the Dneprodzerzhinsk Reservoir.
