city and administrative center of Agdash Raion, Azerbaijan SSR, in the Shirvan Plain, 10 km northeast of the Liaka railroad station on the Tbilisi-Baku highway line. The population in 1968 was 12,800. Agdash has a silkworm farm, a cotton mill, and a dairy plant. There is a technical school of agriculture, a medical school, and a pedagogical school. Agdash is an old city, well-known for its trade in silk and silk products. A caravansary has remained. Agdash arose in the 16th century and was organized as a city in 1900.
