Foot log Foot logA log lying across a creek in such a position that it could be walked on to cross the creek without having to wade. Sometimes the log was merely a tree that had fortuitously fallen across the creek, but sometimes a tree growing by the bank was deliberately cut. In the summer, such logs were a favorite spot for sunning water moccasins, so it was wise to make sure the log was clear before starting across. Otherwise, one might find oneself trying to walk backwards on a small log. |
