Bright Spot a defect on the surface of hot-worked steel that has been cut (mainly steels with medium carbon content). Bright spots appear as light-colored strips parallel to the flow of the metal in pressure treatment. The length of the spots varies from several mm to several cm and the width from fractions of a mm to 2–3 mm. Bright spots are formed primarily in poorly deoxidized steel and in steel with a high content of nonmetallic inclusions. They are not permitted in products that must operate under demanding conditions. |
