Bellingshausen Trench

a depression in the bed of the southeastern Pacific Ocean between the Antarctic and South American continental shelf and the South Pacific, East Pacific, and western Chile rises. From east to west, the Bellingshausen Trench is about 8,000 km long. Its maximum depth is 5,290 m. Its floor is composed of red deep-water clays and diatomaceous silt. It was named in honor of F. F. Bellingshausen.
