Fire-Fighting Train

Fire-Fighting Train

a train used to extinguish fires on railroads and in areas along railroad tracks. In the USSR, fire-fighting trains are part of the fire-fighting equipment operated by subdivisions of the Ministry of Railroads. A fire-fighting train consists of a pump car, several water-tank cars, and a service car. A pump car is similar to a converted passenger car that has sections for personnel and machinery. The machinery section contains centrifugal pumps driven by internal-combustion engines or fire power-pump trailers; it also contains fire-fighting equipment. The capacity of the tank cars is 25 to 50 cu m. The service car contains a tank truck.
