Enisei Gulf
Enisei Gulf
a gulf of the Kara Sea between Gydan Peninsula and the coast of mainland Asia. Its length to Cape Sopochnaia Karga is approximately 225 km. The width at the entrance is about 150 km; its depth is 6-20 m. The Enisei River flows into it. In winter the southern part is covered with stationary ice (ice foot) and the northern part with floating ice. It is open during the summer months. There are semi-diurnal tides (up to 0.4 m high). In the gulf there is fishing for white salmon, omul (a species of whitefish) and other fish and hunting of marine animals, including seals and white whales. Sea routes to Dudinka and Igarka, ports of the lower Enisei River, pass through it. On the eastern coast of its entrance is the port of Dikson, near which a hydrometeorological observatory is located on an island of the same name.
