Economically Independent Population

the aggregate of people with independent sources for the means of existence. These sources include labor incomes, stipends, and pensions; in the bourgeois countries, unearned income constitutes an additional source. The concept of the economically independent population is not used extensively in modern statistics, having been replaced by the concept of the economically active population, that is, the population engaged in labor that brings earnings or income.
