Dmitrii Tsaplin
Tsaplin, Dmitrii Filippovich
Born Feb. 8 (20), 1890, in the village of Malyi Melik, in present-day Saratov Oblast; died Nov. 25, 1967, in Moscow. Soviet sculptor.
Tsaplin studied at the Saratov Higher Art Studios in 1919–20. He exhibited with several organizations, including the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia and the Society of Russian Sculptors (1925–27). He worked abroad—in France, Spain, and Great Britain—from 1927 to 1935. Tsaplin worked mainly in stone and wood. Portraits of V. I. Lenin predominated among his works. Tsaplin also produced a number of other portraits, thematic compositions, and animal pieces.
