Eurydema Oleracea

Eurydema Oleracea

an insect of the family Pentatomidae (stink bugs) that is a pest of rape, cabbage, and other plants of the family Cruciferae. The abdomen and the elytra are dark metallic blue or green with whitish, yellowish, or reddish spots and stripes. The pronotum is dark with a colored border and a whitish or reddish longitudinal stripe down the middle. Eurydema oleracea is distributed in Europe and Asia (except regions of the Far North). It yields one generation a year in the northern part of its range and two in the southern part. Both adult and larval individuals are destructive. The leaves of severely damaged plants turn yellow, curl, and wither. Young plants infested by the insects die.

Control measures include destruction of cruciferous weeds and post-harvest residues and treatment of plants with insecticides in the spring and early summer.
