Filipp Gospodarev

Gospodarev, Filipp Pavlovich

 

Born 1865; died 1938. Soviet Russian storyteller.

Gospodarev was born into a poor peasant family in Zabab’ia village, in present-day Rogachev Raion, Gomel’ Oblast. In 1903 he participated in a peasant uprising and was exiled for life to Olonets Province. In 1907 he moved to Petrozavodsk, where he worked in the Onega factory. In 1937 the folklorist N. V. Novikov recorded 106 of Gospodarev’s tales that clearly express antilandlord and antireligious tendencies.
