Bobylev, Dmitrii Konstantinovich

 

Born Nov. 11,1842; died Feb. 20,1917. Russian physicist and mechanical engineer. Corresponding member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences (1896).

In 1862, Bobylev graduated from the Mikhail Artillery Academy, and from 1871 he taught physics at the University of St. Petersburg and the Institute of Transportation. He became an extraordinary professor in 1878 and an ordinary professor at the university in 1885. Bobylev’s principal works are in the field of hydrodynamics, electricity, and magnetism. He is the author of the major study A Course in Analytical Mechanics (vols. 1–2, 1880–84).
