Breton Horse

a heavy draft horse developed in the northwestern regions of France (Brittany) by crossbreeding local harness horses with Percherons and Norfoiks. The Breton horse is harmoniously proportioned and has a chestnut, chestnut-roan, bay, or bay-roan coloring. It measures 155-160 cm high at the withers, 200-210 cm around the chest, and up to 25 cm around the cannon bone. Three types of Bretons are distinguished: large, small, and coach or light. Bred in France, they are used for transport and agricultural work. In the USSR the coach type of Bretons were used to develop the Toriisk breed of horses.
